The 480 coupé exhibited at the 1986 Geneva Show clearly illustrated the revival of the Swedish make. Its original bodywork with a huge rear hatch made it a practical sports car which could also accommodate 4 passengers and their luggage. The 4-cylinder overhead camshaft engine was injection-powered and Volvo also announced the future release of a supercharged version with Garrett providing the turbo system.
