The success of the 504 encouraged Peugeot to attack the top end of the market. At the 1975 Geneva Show, the marque from Sochaux launched the 604, a large 4-door saloon with a V6 engine in a 90° V arrangement with 2664 cc which developed 136 bhp-DIN. The new car was no doubt intended to compete with its "enemy sister ", the R 30 TS by Renault,it was very different from the latter with tauter bodywork lines.
