Making its world debut in Geneva, the Opel Speedster was also named "Cabrio of the Year 2000". Its Lotus Elise look was no accident. Both were assembled at the Hethel plant in the United Kingdom. And yet, both sports cars had no more than 10% of parts in common. Their concept was identical: it combined light weight and sporting prowess. With a curb weight of no more than 870 kg, the Speedster is powered by a 16-valve 2.2 l aluminum engine with 147 hp. The Speedster was sold from 2000 until 2004.
