First produced in January 1969, the Ford Capri rapidly resulted in many different models, which became increasingly high-performance and sports-oriented, firstly with a 4-cylinder in-line engine and then a V6, with capacity ranging from 1.3 to 3.0 litres. In the early 1970s, the sports versions became famous in many competitions and Ford, which had bought the Ghia coachworks, offered a luxury version under this range.
